Promoting independence…
Supporting children’s independence is very important here at Watcombe and is part of our daily routine. From our younger children in the 0-2’s room to our 3 year olds in the Foundation Unit the development of these skills is key.
For example during snack times, adults will model and support children when pouring drinks using a jug, wiping our faces with flannels and even chopping fruit and vegetables to eat. Another example of how the children are encouraged to be independent at nursery is during garden time, putting wellies and waterproofs on, finding our bags to change wet to dry clothes. The list goes on…
Giving children small tasks throughout the day not only supports building independency but can boost children’s confidence and self esteem, fuelling a sense of achievement and satisfaction.
