Our intergenerational project with Southlands residental home…

Intergenerational care is the practice of bringing the young and elderly together by introducing nurseries and care homes to one another. You may have seen recently on Channel 4 a programme called ‘Old peoples home for 4 year olds’, this was the first time in England that this practice had been properly publicised and recognised. It has had a profound impact across the nation with many nurseries and care homes joining forces.

At Watcombe we have reached out and made links to Southlands residential home in Newton Abbot. A small group of our rising 3 year olds now each have a pen pal at the home and in recent weeks they have been busy writing Christmas cards to them. This week we received cards back and the children have been overjoyed reading them. Here are some snaps of their experiences.
